Project Description
Project: Aoraki Mount Cook National Park, New Zealand, Kitchener Avalanche Path – Concept Design of Avalanche Diversion Berm
Client: Canterbury Conservancy – Department of Conservation, Te Papa Atawhai
Dynamic assisted the New Zealand Department of Conservation with developing a concept plan for a diversion structure at the Mount Kitchener avalanche path adjacent to Aoraki Mount Cook Village in Aoraki Mount Cook National Park, New Zealand. We identified and evaluated options to mitigate avalanche risk to the village and assessed the potential avalanche risk reduction to land and infrastructure by the use of a diversion berm. A conceptual design was created through detailed field studies and avalanche flow dynamics modelling.
