Project Description
Project: 3 Valley Gap – Remote Avalanche Control System Installation
Client: Wyssen Canada Inc, BC Ministry of Transportation
Three Valley Gap (3VG), located 20 km west of Revelstoke, is one of the highest priority avalanche areas on the Trans-Canada Highway (TCH). Between 2016 and 2018, eleven remote avalanche control systems (RACS) were installed at 3VG. DAC completed a feasibility assessment, aided in determining optimal locations of RACS and continues to assist in the installation and ongoing maintenance of the towers. The RACS installed at 3VG were the first of their kind to be used in North America. Benefits of these RACS included reducing time for avalanche control and reducing the length of highway closures.
