Current Opportunities
About the Role:
We are seeking a Lead Avalanche Technician to provide avalanche forecasting and field support for our avalanche safety operations in the Toba Inlet and other regions throughout British Columbia. This is a seasonal, position from November 1st, 2026 to May 31, 2027. Start and end dates may vary based on project requirements.
The successful candidate must reside in or re-locate to the Sea to Sky or Vancouver Island region. You’ll report to the Regional Operations Manager and work from home and in the field with a small team of avalanche technicians and individually. Hours of work could range from approximately 45 to 100 hours per month; comprised of an estimated 7 - 21 days per month (4.5 hrs/day) of avalanche forecasting and 1 to 4 field days per month. On remote forecasting days, the forecaster is required to remain available by cell phone. This position will offer the possibility to work on additional Dynamic projects which depending on the opportunity could result in a full-time workload.
The work is varied, challenging, and rewarding. The successful candidate will work in operational avalanche programs in an industrial context and assist with avalanche consulting projects. This is an ideal role for someone who is highly motivated, accustomed or willing to working on industrial projects and enjoys field and office-based work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare daily avalanche hazard forecasts.
- Collect field data by road, helicopter, and ski/splitboard travel.
- Deliver avalanche safety training courses tailored to project needs.
- Conduct avalanche risk assessments, avalanche mapping, and write clear, technically sound reports.
- Plan and conduct explosive avalanche control missions.
- Prepare InfoEx submissions and other project documentation.
- Drive in winter conditions on highways and resource roads.
- Coordinate logistics and communications for ongoing projects.
- Deploy for fieldwork from the Sea to Sky or Vancouver Island region.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in snow safety.
- CAA Operations Level 2 and CAA Avalanche Professional designation.
- WorkSafe BC Blaster’s Certificate (helicopter endorsement required).
- Intermediate first aid (formerly OFA Level 2) or higher, with transportation endorsement
- Experience with remote avalanche forecasting.
- Strong computer literacy with Microsoft Office suite and InfoEx.
- Excellent technical writing skills for clear and professional reporting.
- Experience with avalanche mapping and mapping software applications.
- Demonstrated experience communicating avalanche risk with stakeholders.
- Experienced and skilled in backcountry travel on skis or splitboard.
- Willing to work a demanding work schedule that includes early mornings, field days, work on weekends/holidays and on-call hours.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
- CAA Operations Level 3 certification.
- Leadership experience in a snow safety role.
- CAA Introduction to Snow Avalanche Mapping course completion.
- Experience in highway or industrial avalanche programs.
- Familiarity with industrial safety protocols and field operations.
- TDG and TDG-Air certification.
- Advanced First Aid (formerly OFA L3).
- Diploma or degree in science or engineering related discipline.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Expected seasonal earnings range from $14,000–$45,000, depending on hours worked, overtime, qualifications, experience, and operational requirements.
- This position is compensated on an hourly basis and is eligible for overtime pay.
